Montreal Canada to Florida RoadtripPrior to COVID-19, we travelled to Florida for three consecutive trips during the summer months of July and August. We spent about 12 days on each occasion. It gets hot and it's peak tourist season this time of year in Florida. But this is the only time we can go with any of our kids. Because they don't go to school during the summer months.
We drove from Canada, Montreal area to Florida. The driving time is approximately 24 hours. We stopped for sleeping halfway, in the south of Richmond, Virginia State.
Most days we stayed in Orlando. It's like our base camp. Going to Disney World and Universal Studios theme parks, shopping and driving through the city
are mostly things we did when we were in Orlando.
We went to the beach and came back to Orlando within the afternoon.
Beaches on the eastern coast of Florida, along the A1A Highway, Cocao, New Smyrna, Daytona, Ormond beaches... are about an hour's drive from Orlando.
Clearwater Beach is approximately two and a half hours away from Orlando.
We particularly like New Smyrna beach. Driving and parking at the beach are permitted.
I wanted to take airboat ride at Everglades. But my wife and children are not fond of crocodiles and snakes.
We left for Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Key West. We were at each location for one day.
We returned to Orlando for a couple of days before returning to Canada.
We booked hotel rooms for two or three days at a time. Three-star hotel, it's fine. All we need is a comfy bed, a clean room and a gym. We always found good hotels at good prices in Orlando.
I always book well-known brand hotels. Unfortunately, on our way back to Canada, we had once a dirty hotel room. Click here to see pictures. I thought it didn't really matter. Because it was only for one night.
I booked a hotel room for the same day. It was a "deal". I think it's better to avoid hotels near highways and in busy cities.
